Outdoor Education
Border Christian College operates an active outdoor education program. High School students all have opportunities to learn skills in map and compass reading, hiking, horse riding, camping and canoeing. The Duke of Edinburgh Award is offered to students in Years 9 to 12.
Performing Arts
Students are introduced and encouraged to be involved in music and drama at the outset of their schooling at Border Christian College. Music is part of our daily worship, weekly chapel programs and school curriculum.
Information Technology
Access to IT technology in a well resourced computer classroom. Information Technology subjects emphasise real world scenarios and projects.
LOTE (Languages Other Than English)
All students in Stage 4 have exposure to the French language. This provides a cultural experience giving a broader view of their world, whereby students develop an understanding of, and an appreciation for, the country and the customs of the people, together with basic vocabulary and the confidence to use it in context with others. This part of our curriculum provides valuable enrichment to students, with many links to other subjects.
Chapel
Secondary School Chapel is a time for students to enjoy fellowship and camaraderie through worship. Students sing, pray and listen to a variety of interesting topics from church ministries or the local community. It is also a time of information sharing about coming events and school happenings.
Excursions
Each year our Secondary School students enjoy local excursions, which are subject specific. Extra curricula trips provide the opportunity for our students to grow. Outdoor Camps, the Snow Trip and the Henty Field Agricultural Day are all trips students look forward to each year.
Years 11 & 12
Where futures are strengthened
Border Christian College seeks to provide every student with the best preparation possible for their career or University transition. Senior years at the College have an academic focus, but still seek to equip students with the values and ideals necessary to positively contribute to their community and the world.
Compressed Curriculum Model
The Higher School Certificate subjects are offered in a ‘compressed curriculum’ model. Students take three subjects per year, completing all of the Year 11 Preliminary and Year 12 HSC course work and examinations for those subjects in one calendar year. This advantage permits students to spread their HSC examinations over two years, typically sitting three exams in their first year of Senior Studies and the next three in their second year of Senior Studies. The Compressed Curriculum Model provides students with a greater diversity of subjects and much less examination pressure.
Distance Education & TVET
A varied selection of subject options is available on request.
Studies of Religion
As a school with a Christian emphasis, Religious Studies is a compulsory subject throughout a student’s education at Border Christian College. Our religious studies curriculum has been developed by our school system (Adventist Schools Australia) and endorsed by the Board of Studies. Year 11 and 12 Studies of Religion is a Board of Studies developed course and all senior students are required to follow a pattern of study in this subject to a minimum of one unit.
Student Leadership
High School Captains are nominated by BCC students and staff, and the announcement of new student leaders is made during the Awards Night Ceremony at the end of the school year. The Captains lead out on Monday morning school assembly and represent the College at official occasions. Other positions of leadership include Student Representative Council (SRC) and House Captains. Student leaders are given the opportunity to attend the Annual National Young Leaders Day at the commencement of the new school year and a visit to the NSW Government House during the year.
Excursions
Senior students enjoy local excursions which are of benefit to their studies, reinforcing course outcomes. Extra-curricula trips provide the opportunity for our Seniors to grow. Outdoor Camps, the Snow Trip and the Henty Field Agricultural Day are all trips students look forward to each year.
Our senior students embark on a major Service Excursion overseas on a biannual basis. This includes a sightseeing adventure combined with a community service component during the trip.
